Today marks the start of our second calendar month: we started our journey from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France on May 12th and we’ve just arrived in Foncebadón, Spain today, June 12th.
We’ve – thankfully, I’d say – passed through the mesetas, as the scenery was getting a bit samey and the lack of shade wasn’t the best either. We’re now pretty close to leaving the Castilla y León region and entering the Galicia region – something I’m very much looking forward to as a foodie (mmm, octopus!) and converted kilt wearer (more on this in a future post, perhaps).
Today saw the highest altitude change since day one (all uphill), and tomorrow and the following day see much the same downhill – but at a much steeper gradient (it will be hard on the knees, thus why we’re breaking it up into two days).
Some more stats since my last post to satisfy the nerdy among you:
Day 25: Walk 13.94km to Calzadilla de los Hermanillos
Day 26: Walk 24.38km to Las Mulas
Day 27: Walk 18.55km to León
Day 28: Rest day
Day 29: Walk 21.87km to Villar de Mazarife (this puts this cumulative total at 500.02km!)
Day 30: Walk 20.06km to Santibáñez Valdeiglesias
Day 31: Walk 21.39km to Santa Catalina de Somoza
Day 32: Walk 16.71km to Foncebadón
Our current cumulative distance is 558.18km, with a minimum cumulative step count of 762,392 (Jeff and Simon have shorter legs than me, so their step count is always greater). Even the boots are still holding up!
