As we left Puente la Reina we walked through the medieval town with narrow cobbled streets and ancient doorways. The stone buildings really seemed to stare down on us disapprovingly as we left the town (after a morning coffee and pastry, of course).
Like the day before, we swiftly found ourselves walking along the Camino path lined with poppies and wild flowers behind fields planted with wheat.
A anticipated Roman bridge and approach required some “less than elegant” climbing to reach – going downhill with a heavy backpack is just as difficult as going uphill!
We spend loads of time examining the multitude of plants along the way (Rosy Garlic, Serrated Spurge and Bituminaria were all highlights for us).
The rolling countryside slowly revealed our destination (Estella) with more cobblestone streets, wonderful doors and disapproving stone buildings – judging us as we shuffled by.
Another wonderful ramble!
