Today marked the end of our first week, and what a finish it was.
We arrived in Los Arcos after a short-ish 12.63km walk, to be greeted by a brass band playing for the local fiesta, and then discovered that the town’s annual bull run was being held in the evening. Not only that, but our balcony overlooked the street where they sent the bulls!
Needless to say, we bought beers and settled in for an evening of entertainment – after polishing off some lovely thick-cut pork belly (torreznos) and local wine (€3.60 for 3 glasses if the bartender’s daughter was serving, €4.80 otherwise 😅).
Other than having front row seats for the bull run, we got very lucky as our hotel was far enough away from the main town square to avoid the party atmosphere. Some fellow travellers weren’t so lucky; at 02:30 they could still hear – and feel – the bass from the sound stage right outside their window 😬.
When we left Los Arcos at around 08:15, some people were still partying and the cleanup operation was still ongoing 😅.
