Two stick men having a conversation: "Walk the Camino" / "What? Walk it yourself" / "sudo walk the Camino" / "Okay"

sudo camino

I stir my coffee clockwise

We all have habits – from throwing spilled salt over a shoulder to which sock gets put on first.

When I walked the Camino Frances last year I chose not to drink alcohol until I’d checked in to my accommodation, made my bed and had a shower. A simple rule that ensured I didn’t end up stinky and drunk trying to organise a bed for the night.

I like the taste of beer, but in order to not break the “rule” I made up… I drink a lot of zero alcohol beers throughout the day (most of which tend to be less calorific than a humble glass of fresh orange juice).

Sometimes rules are made to be broken. When we check in to a hostal that provides cotton bedsheets (and the bed is already made) it’s almost as if the rule no longer applies!

Today we walked in to Hornillos del Camino with the knowledge we had beds (pre-made) and fresh towels (luxury!). So we stumbled into the local tienda and bought a beer each. It was 28 °C. We broke the rule.

Sometimes you can break the rules you make for yourself. It’s ok. Tomorrow is another day. Hopefully a little cooler.
