For various reasons – including wanting to get back to the U.K. in time to vote (it worked: we managed to oust the Tories 🎉), last year’s Camino ended for us in Santiago rather than Fisterra.
Jeff and I returned to walk the first few stages in October, and Jeff has just spent just over five weeks walking from Roncesvalles.
As we hadn’t managed to get to Fisterra or Muxía last year, Simon and I flew in to Santiago de Compostela and joined Jeff so we could sort out unfinished business 😄.
The rough schedule is:
Tue 8th July
- Monday: Walk to Negreira (20.47km)
- Tuesday: Walk to Lago-Abeleiroas (28.42km)
- Wednesday: Walk to Cee (24.55km)
- Thursday: Walk to Fisterra (11.42km to the town, plus 3km walk to the cape and 3km walk back – 17.42km in total)
- Friday: Walk to Muxía (28.61km)
We left Santiago at 08:00, and arrived at Negreira at 13:20. The weather was good – not too roasting, slightly cloudy – and the terrain was mostly easy going – other than the 10% incline (200m over 2km).
Lots of eucalyptus trees meant the air always smelt amazing, and walking without issue from a cold start (for me and Simon) was encouraging.
The food and drink is as awesome as always, and I even managed to find one of my favourite foods (octopus or pulpo) smothered in one of my favourite Spanish cheeses (Arzúa-Ulloa 🤤).
